Anyone want to spill what their buyout offer was?

Someone posted the terms on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoft/comments/1xg0c5o/microsof...

> 1–2 weeks’ pay per semester of tenure, based on level; six months of fully covered COBRA (remaining 12 months paid by you) and two vesting events in February and May.

> L65-L67 get 4w of pay per year of service, while L64 and below get 2w per year. I’ve been with MS for 10 years, so I qualify for the max payout of 39w.

> Eligibility this time is up to L70, not sure what the package is for L68-70.

looks like their normal layoff package

They probably not allowed, because of NDA

nondisclosure of compensation package and disparagement clauses are usually on the contracts as well. People don't want to tip off the H1B guy he makes 40% less than the dude standing next to him. =3

If your comp package has a non-disclosure clause it's illegal. You cannot be asked not to discuss salary in the US.

> People don't want to tip off

That's why it's illegal to be prevented from discussing salary. Discuss your coworkers - you might be the one being underpaid.

ymmv, things like employee at-will contracts are illegal in my area, technically unenforceable, and yet everyone still signs the form.

Fun times =3

YMMV = Your milage is controlled by law, and cannot vary.

You can sign broken contract freely - it's unenforceable, so you can sign whatever paper HR hands to you, and only when you're retaliated against do you need to care. Which coincidentally is when you stop needing to be cooperative anyways.

Don't "YMMV" your way out of laws that protect you.
