| What's wrong with Vermont maple syrup? |

| Quebec alone produces more maple syrup than everywhere else in the world combined, by a wide margin. |

| ▲ | unsupp0rted 3 hours ago | parent [-] | | Sure, but that's no reason not to rely on locally-sourced products where possible, and Vermont makes it possible in this case | | |
| ▲ | jappgar 3 hours ago | parent [-] | | No it doesn't make it possible. It can't possibly make up the difference. | | |
| ▲ | unsupp0rted 3 hours ago | parent [-] | | Why not? | | |

| I don't know, maybe there's not enough of it? > Canada supplies the overwhelming majority of U.S. maple-syrup imports. |

| ▲ | Gabrys1 5 hours ago | parent [-] | | Oh, also add a note on the bottle that this higher price is thanks to your beloved Trump. Canadians are way too nice to do this, but it would be sensational. | | |

| Nothing, but they don’t make enough. Unless it claims to be 100% Vermont it’s likely blended with Canadian or entirely Canadian maple syrup. |

Many, possibly most, maple syrup producers in New England do not sell to national grocery store chains. You go to the sugar house and buy a jug which is typically much more expensive than what you’d find in a grocery store. But you also have more choices, since you can buy from a person who sells different grades. I rarely see more than one grade for sale in a US grocery store. I don’t mind paying a little extra for something I use in such small quantities to support a neighbor. |

| Make it car exports as well. A small 5-10% export fee, so that the premium Americans pay for the cars is distributed between both countries |
