None of this is of any concern to me. We were raised not to use foul, vulgar language in polite company. Social norms and business settings never allowed this. You could be ostracized or fired.

A distant relative married into a family outside of our normal circle. When he brought along a someone from that side to a Thanksgiving family dinner, her language was loaded with the well known bombs where, at one point, someone brought her into another room for a talking to.

As it should be done.

While you comment reads as satire, I am afraid you really mean it.

And your response is my comment on far too many who think this way today.

"United Ireland" is also not tolerated in your showcase family? There's a huge difference between political ideas and outright profanity

I don't know what United Ireland is but profanity is profane and if you consider a lack of profanity any kind of "showcase" then it speaks directly to the problem I speak of.

Speaking of Ireland, I was there last year and never heard a foul word spoken. Then there was the time we walked down one street and turned the corner to see a few young men at the far end. Moments later I heard a crash and turned to see a heavy whiskey bottle lane near us as the men ran away. If you consider me a "showcase" then I wonder which group you would have been with. Mine or those young men.
