The day Chinese EVs are available in the US market we'll all have access to sub 15k cars perfect for commuting.

Make it a federal law that the cars wifi/SIM card phone home crap needs to be easily removable.

This protectionism around American cars is a hidden tax on everyone of us.

It's cheaper to let Tesla, Ford, etc all collapse and arrange direct social support for laid off workers.

I want a 15k byd. I don't need a 25k Slate.

Laws and regulations around car dealerships are deeply ingrained into state and federal politics. I don't think we will see Chinese or Mexican EVs anytime.

It's a double whammy. We underfund public transportation so most people need a car.

We then add all types of strange protectionism around which cars can be sold.

No reason I shouldn't be able to order a new EV straight from Shenzhen.

I don't think you'll ever see that day considering the bipartisan hawkishness against China.

People forget that Biden put the 100% tariffs on Chinese cars, not Trump.

ok

And Trump didn't remove the tariffs, hence the "bipartisan" comment.

I remember 15 years ago when liberals were absolutely furious at companies relying on Chinese "slave labor" for making shoes cheap and cutting into US wages.

I myself have no strong opinion on the issue, and think protectionism can often be quite bad, but it's weird how things have flipped. Presumably because of reactions to one man's views.

Chinese EVs are not made with "slave labor"
