> they will keep doubling down, because stopping is simply not an option

Of course it is. Apple is taking that strategic approach. If Anthropic believes it’s approaching saturation, pulling the plug when it’s at steady state and its rivals are over-invested is the winning move.

Well, unlike Apple a lot of very aggressive investors in Anthropic are riding on its trillion dollars valuation. They just can't on their own decide to stop or slow down.

Okay? Anthropic’s management and Board are uniquely insulated even by Silicon Valley standards.

> They just can't on their own decide to stop or slow down

Of course they can. Doubly so if it’s shareholder accretive in the long run.

Apple has a lot of actual money, Anthropic does not. Apple sells a lot of products, Anthropic doesn't. Apple have a platform multiple players want a piece of, Anthropic fight to stand alone.

There's very little comparison to be had here. Also, Anthropic likely have investors with way too much leverage for them to stop.

Apple can swoop in and gobble Anthropic and OpenAI up when they are on the auction block. Or just hire their talent away.

...exactly this were my thoughts when reading the response:

Maybe Apple is just waiting on the line until someone can be sucked up at a penny if the house is on fire - and pretty sure, this will happen. Not in 2027, but I expect MA activites & consoliation before 2030
