I categorize spelling and grammar corrections as basic fact checking. I like to write how I talk and that means I sometimes leave the bad grammar because it seems more like my voice (whatever that is).

And it would be bad if the article used AI for basic fact checking too.

Not actually worse than for spelling, because both use cases equally allow it to insert bullshit into the text.
