Sure, because you’re also paying for public utilities in other ways (taxes, inflation, regulations, etc). The government can’t give you anything it hasn’t first taken from you in one way or another.

Cost in this example is simply rate paid on your electric bill, but with the government - essentially unaudited - the bill isn't the real price. The assumptions everyone's making are just lazy.
