Bullshit plea deals are offered in bullshit cases like this only so that the "officers" involved can save face and claim "yupp, conviction!! we're the good guys!" because there is no additional downside or risk to them.

It really would be great if judges could (and would) issue sanctions and/or personal fines against people who are so clearly operating in bad faith.
