The issue with is, as far as my personal anecdote is concerned, that competence doesn't translate across all activities. Me being good with figuring out Legos, video games, or programming doesn't translate to me being good with cooking, socializing, music, etc. Furthermore, I find it completely reasonable for someone to care about the long-term financial focus of their children. I find this to be the second best antidote to all the uncertainty and fear older generations leave behind to the new ones. The first best would've been to actually give a damn and make a stand to what the powers-to-be force you to accept as the new norm as if they're the force of nature that make decisions on how the 95% of the world's population must adapt to.

Competence in one field does not translate. However, the idea of 'try, try, try again' is something that should work across all fields
