I bet for a short golden age where AI will reap the low hanging fruit of easy (for a computer) cross-referencing and inference. And then a dark age with none interested in putting new ideas out in the field. Hopefully, I am wrong.

That's a pretty nuanced answer and I suspect you are more likely to be right than anybody picking either option in isolation.
