Likewise, Apple does not give Withings access to Apple Health's data, even with user permission.

So, I can understand why Withings does not want to be the one doing the hard work of data collection, while Apple is preparing its own subscription for Health services.

Yes it does. It's controlled in Apple Health under Sharing

no one at whitings is working hard on taking any measurements, just some mba convinced themselves that they do actual work

device was bought by customer and it's all customer's data

The “hard work of data collection”, it’s a fucking scale and it’s MY data, I paid for the hardware, it’s not Withings data at all. They knew the deal going in, Apple didn’t change the terms.

I’ve been a withings customer for just shy of 15 years. My original scale from 2012 is still kicking and I bought an upgraded one 2 years ago.

I will never pay Withings another dime if they keep up this bullshit and/or look for a way to hack the scale to have it talk to some self-hosted backend/app that does sync to Apple Health.

What do you mean? My Withings app can access that data without issues

Surely, the user is doing all the hard work. The scale or whatever is just a tool to do so - like a ruler. Imagine if your measuring tape put the measurements you take behind a paywall.
