foldable screens

Yes, Apple reliably lets other manufacturers discover the hard problems, and then Apple solves them. And then residents of HN and Reddit think this is a great zinger every time.

Apple buys them. Paying Sammy $330 bucks for every one of those handsets they sell: https://www.gadgetreview.com/apple-is-reportedly-paying-sams...

That puts me in mind of Google paying Apple billions per year to have Google as the default search engine and (maybe more importantly) discourage Apple from building their own search engine.

Knowing what we know today, probably a good choice as search engines themselves are quickly getting less usage due to AIs. (I for one would never have predicted there would be something that could replace search engines, but then I also thought Facebook was here to stay forever for everyone. Happy to be wrong)

Apple pays Samsung for making the things Apple designed.

Like folding screens in question?

Possibly. It's complicated. It's not uncommon for Company A to produce a design based on Company B's proprietary R&D. Just because Samsung is making those displays for Apple doesn't mean that Apple didn't do major parts of the R&D. Nor does it mean that Samsung can make the same displays for Samsung, or for their other customers.

Just because something is possible doesn't mean we can deny ground truth. Apple did not invent folded screens by any stretch of the imagination, and is the latest one to the party, even for Apples standard of "freshness" it is late.
