In some cases, sensor data requires further transformation/processing. If you do it in the app, others who decompile your app can copy the implementation; if you put it behind an API, it makes it much harder.

		Smart scales use BIA tech to figure out your bodyfat%, i think that's what most people use withings for, otherwise there are plenty of scales which can log your weight. Even thought withings is garbage for bodyfat% estimation but plenty of noobs do not understand this.
