at 40 I became a woman and never been happier

I had a friend who transitioned and it was such a delight to witness the transformion. Before they were the most flaky of friends, always flitting from on thing to the next, not stable, couldn't hold a job or hobby together for very long. Then they finally transitioned and my god the difference was night and say. They're stable now, they're reliable they're just fun to be around. They've finished a second degree and have held the same job for eight years now.

It's crazy how much not being at home in their body disrupted every part of their life

Serious congratulations. I understand untreated gender dysphoria is a huge predictor of suicide.

Became? Do you not consider yourself to have always been so?

(Out of curiosity, if you don't mind the question).

Imagine if we had the technology to actually do this!

▲nemomarx 19 hours ago | parent [-]

It advances every so often. We might have womb transplants in the next decade, surgical techniques get more and more refined, etc.

"etc" is doing a lot of work there; what in your view would constitute success here - something that would allow us to say "we did it, we now have the technology to freely change our sex at will"?

▲nemomarx 18 hours ago | parent [-]

It depends on how you define sex. Hormones cover most expressions from chromosomes already. Skull reconstruction could be better? Maybe some way to really rework skeletons and adjust height and hips or shoulders? But that's more on the cosmetic end.

Or if you want at will, it would be good to have some way to radically speed up changes. You're still looking at 3-8 years for some things.
