Oh no, John Apple has committed the classic IoT blunder of building the Facebook Portal.

The thing I find puzzling is that we still don't have cameras on TVs. They tried built-in cameras for a brief time in early 2010 with Skype, but they disappeared soon after again. Facebook Portal TV tried again with an add on, and Sony had an add on too. But it never gained any traction. You'd think there would be an audience for using the TV as a big video phone, but that never happened. One could blame it on consumer trust, but that has never stopped them from adopting all other kinds of questionable things. Maybe I watched too much sci-fi, but using a big screen to make video calls seems like such a natural extension for a TV.

It really seems exactly like it, although at least the portal had the built in camera cover.
