Through the incredible power of Siri AI™, you can now get a "I didn't understand that. Do you want to search the web for 'turn on the kitchen lights'?" response faster than ever before.

I don't think this joke works anymore. Siri uses Gemini now.

▲joshstrange 5 hours ago | parent | next [-]

Correct, it's not faster. Now it's slower to the point you aren't sure if it's ever going to work, then it comes back with some error.

Sure, it stopped being quite a stupid as before but it's not the nirvana they were promising, checks notes, 3+ years ago.

So it doesn't have the same issues as old Siri, just new issues.

Yes, it’s insanely slow now. So bad, I unenrolled from the beta. I mostly use Siri for reminders and alarms and somehow it was spending upwards of 5 seconds on the new Siri AI to do these tasks. Unusable.

> I mostly use Siri for reminders and alarms

Ahh yes, the only 2 things I can trust it for. The same tasks that now take longer and fail more often. I guess it understands me a little better but it's been rough. Also I see they left in the fun bugs of:

Me: "Siri, set a reminder for 1pm for XYZ"

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

iPhone: No indication of anything done or Siri still waiting, looks like it just gave up

Me: "Siri, set a reminder for 1pm for XYZ"

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

Siri: ....

Siri: "Ok, I've set your reminder"

_1 pm rolls around_

2 reminders fire...

so responses like "I've turned on the lights", but you're still standing in the dark. That's my anecdotal level of interactions with any Gemini model.

▲longtimelistnr 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

It's still unbelievably limited and lackluster

▲karussell 5 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

I wonder if they use Gemini how can the promise "Private for all" be fulfilled? Local model like gemma4?

▲avree 2 hours ago | parent [-]

Because they don't "use Gemini".

"These new capabilities are powered by the next generation of Apple Foundation Models, custom-built in collaboration with Google and its Gemini models for deeply integrated Apple Intelligence experiences. "

▲buzzerbetrayed 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

Gemini backed Siri sucks too though. The frequency in which it just.. does nothing, is crazy. Joke still works.

▲macintux 7 hours ago | parent [-]

Yep, I really wish I could revert to previous-Siri on my iPhone 15 Pro. Old Siri was reasonably predictable and faster. New Siri is slower, more ambitious, and fails more often.

▲deinonychus 2 hours ago | parent [-]

you can. i just did it on my 17 pro and my watch. i get instant timers again. it's unreal we lost this technology.

go to settings > siri > and turn off siri entirely. it doesn't break anything. then turn it back on, and they give you the option for siri AI or old dumb siri.

enjoy :)

Thank you very much. Whew.

▲darkstar999 7 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

Gemini can be pretty bad on my Pixel phone and Nest speakers.

▲rolosa 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

Hey siri, turn off my tv

"Did you mean your device labeled "tv"?"

Yes Siri ffs that's literally the only device called "tv" I have

▲ben_w 7 hours ago | parent [-]

- Alarm goes off

- "Hey siri, stop alarm"

- Alarm stops

- Meanwhile, the HomePod in a different room chimes in with "Turn off the alarm on Ben's iPhone XR?", pauses for a while then checks in to see if I heard it the first time

The HomePod has now been unplugged.

▲cr1895 3 hours ago | parent | next [-]

>The HomePod has now been unplugged.

Mine are now unplugged after the update to 27 while i'm not home, since they've developed a mind of their own & will randomly turn on the TV or play music themselves.

▲jimbokun an hour ago | parent [-]

Well they get bored if not given enough stimulation.

▲graypegg 5 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

I have an original homepod, and man, I wish I could lobotomize it easily.

It's a really nice speaker if I set it on something sturdy that won't rattle, and airplay is still pretty good even on ancient devices.

I can't keep it plugged in because it will just randomly say "You can enable personalized responses in the settings app!" at 3am about once a week if I do. It's horrifying when it happens because it always seems to be 10x louder than I remember it being set to.

▲jimbokun an hour ago | parent [-]

Probably because ambient noise is so much less at 3am.

▲singularity2001 5 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

"There are no alarms ringing." I kid you not, that's the latest tick when I want to stop alarms with three devices in the room.

▲Sir_Twist 4 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

"Here's what I found on the web for 'Open the pod bay doors.'"
