Sure. It’s still an incredibly tiny number of people annually, especially considering there is no “direct” treatment or cure for it.

It is an incredibly rare disease, so it is hardly something that would qualify as “endemic” to any population in the US. Rural populations in the US do not feel it like rural populations in many other countries. Acknowledging that is not discounting or forgetting rural populations in the US. That is not a fair accusation in the slightest.
