This is where governments should slam them with regulations.

Absolute anti-competitive behavior. "Android is open, but not really"

You want to lead an assault on companies that develop OSS because they don't follow your dictats on how to work?

That sounds like a brilliant idea, I'm sure it'll be amazing show of force for all the top kernel contributors as well.

No, just lead an assault on companies that abuse their market position to kneecap any possibility of OSS being deployed meaningfully.

This actually is a brilliant idea.

Which companies are that? The market leader of US phone market is running a closed, proprietary golden-cage OS which will increase it's share if your harebrained scheme is implemented.

What’s wrong with that?

You think that Google throwing its weight around to prevent competition to even exist (however small it may be) is fine because otherwise Apple may gain share and yet you have the boldness to call anything harebrained.

This is rich even for the very low standards of HN.

Moronic take of the day. Quite a feat.

Google can't be "throwing around to prevent competition" when they don't even have market dominance, especially when the main player is the one aggressively implementing anti-competitive standards and you're completely mum about it.

It's really kind of bizarre that you want to attack developers of an OSS OS when the other option is so much worse on every level when it comes to freedom.

Believe me, I hate Apple more than I hate Google (which is why when my choice is between both devils, I pick Android).

But in this case, it is Google kneecapping a small viable option (Graphene OS). How can a new, better player enter the space when no OEM may even sell Graphene OS without threatening their ability to also sell Android devices?

I am not here attacking a an OSS OS developer. I am attacking one of the largest corporations in the world, a member of a duopoly in the mobile OS market, engaging in ridiculous anti-competitive behavior.
