There's an ugly monoculture running deeply through SF and Silicon Valley. All of these people are friends, hired into the same places, similar beliefs. Lots of the consciousness and doom-ism talk is from the 'EA' crowd, lots of crossover with crypto too. It feels no different to a cult. | ||

It’s a monoculture of absolute crack smoking craziness. Any civilised society should be berating them and shutting them down. But they are surrounded by people who worship money. | ||

There was a great article in the Financial Times about how while bankers are looked down upon for the financial crisis etc, they at least work in global cities and mix with regular people. SV tech bros are completely insular and in this bubble where they don't interact with the common person in the same way. It's just a theory, but I think it has some weight. | ||
