Thanks, this is one of these small things I’m used to working around instead of finding a solution.

Countless times I’ve used the browser address bar to reduce text to plain text. Which in some browsers doesn’t work anymore (feature): which could be worked around by pasting more, then removing a character. - It was fast and always in view. The real issue is that I usually don’t want formatting… until I do. :)

Browser bar technique - yes!

Alt+Tab (switch to browser), Alt+D (to get to the browser bar), Ctrl+V (paste), Ctrl+A (select all), Ctrl+C (copy), Alt+Tab (switch to application), Ctrl+V (paste unformatted text)

What a muscle memory! Wish Ctrl+Shift+V (paste plain text) was standardized at the OS level.

Note: Using Mint Debian Linux, but the same flow seems to apply to Windows & Mac.

Bonus: I really wish copying a file in the GUI (Finder on Mac, file explorer on Linux) would default to pasting the full file path/name, when pasting into plain text. I can't believe how difficult it is to get the actual file name in a modern OS!

Isn't there a shortcut to past without formatting? Ctrl+Shift+v? (Or whatever the hell Apple came up with for macOS.)

That's right, cmd+shift+V pastes without formatting. And there's also a context menu option for that.

Just yesterday I noticed that if you do "paste text only" when pasting a URL in Outlook, the link is no longer clickable, just a string of text. Maybe it would turn into a clickable link by the time the email reaches its recipient, who knows. But I ended up doing the "paste into notepad and re-copy" thing.

Normally I also use the address bar, but these days if you copy-paste a web address from Edge to Outlook/Teams, it won't show up as the URL itself but the page's title as a hyperlink.
