Counterpoint to this: I'm 37, premature wear on the hips. Saw 14 doctors before one took me seriously. 2 others wanted to do repair (labral tear repair, after 2 failures), one wanted to do big repair (PAO).

Eventually found a doctor at Mayo who looked at the x-rays differently. He replaced my hips and life is 100x better.

Maybe I wasn't clear, Im quite better now thanks to surgery - still, because some damage is irreversible, I have nerve damage that creates a whole new set of problems; In my case, what the surgeon did was almost short of a miracle, given the state of my hernias. He would also agree with this assessment, btw; these things, in the state I was, usually end up much worse.
