It's so rare in adults it's got the cute name maturity onset diabetes of the young (MODY).

MODY is something else entirely (a genetic mutation driven disease with distinct pathophysiology from Type 1). What’s being discussed here is LADA (late autoimmune diabetes in adults). LADA itself isn’t that rare but it is a small minority of all cases of diabetes in older adults.
