I think it's a bit reductive to compare China taking inspiration from America in the 20th century to Nazi Germany's explicit admiration for slavery and the genocide of Native Americans.

Germany copied the wrong things then, just like we are now copying the wrong things (surveillance, cronyism, absolute leaders) from China.
