The idea of the brain having a primitive layer and more refined layers is much more than ten years old [0]. The new finding here is that distinct layers have different progenitor cells.

Interesting, thanks for the insight! According to your Wikipedia link, the Truine brain theory is not widely recognized.. maybe this will change that to some extent.

I'm no expert, but my understanding is that modern neuroscience has moved away from the idea that specific areas of the brain control specific behaviours.
