The accelerometer rotation feature will be an awesome addition, I think so far there is no DE that lets you do that without some custom scripts. I have to test that out real soon. Windows used to handle that pretty good (if you ignore wallpapers breaking etc.) so it was one of the stopping points for users who just want a Linux that works for their AIO laptops.

That caught my eye too. I have a Thinkbook Yoga running GNOME and auto rotate has worked as expected for years, with a toggle in the quick settings for rotation lock.

I think this change is just adding the toggle to the standalone settings app.

Really? I have been struggling to get mine to work on my Asus laptop. I guess I have a driver problem more than anything. Thanks for letting me know!

For what it's worth, rotation is locked and the auto-rotate setting doesn't show until the keyboard is flipped back -- so if you're going to be troubleshooting, I'd look into whatever enables 'tablet mode' rather than accelerometer stuff specifically.
