If that's all you cared for, why would you buy an Apple Watch Ultra in the first place? Like a Casio F-91W is a great watch but it is a fundamentally different category than an Apple Watch Ultra even though they're both "watches". It's a bit like saying, " Hey, my calculator has a battery life that lasts years, while my super powerful laptop has a battery life that only lasts 12 hours and has to be updated constantly.

Like yeah.

100% every word you wrote. I watched the Apple video. Thought it would be great to have this amazing GPS capable watch, with a cellular phone (that, I will confess, I did use three or four times and it was really good) - maps, remote finding of my phone, etc...

Honestly - if it wasn't for the incessant nagging me to upgrade, letting me know it's going to upgrade, letting me know it had failed to upgrade, and the never ending useless notification that I kept having to edit/unsubscribe/remove stupid apps that I never installed - I probably wouldn't have switched for a short period of time.

What I would have never predicted is how getting rid of all that noise has just made me so much happier.

Also - didn't realize how much I hate having to charge my watch every 16 hours.

Yes that makes sense. But you know there are other options like Garmin that create really cool type of smart watches that you might actually find fitting to your needs.

But my entire point was that you cannot compare a digital basic watch to apple's device that it calls a watch. Like its just a different device categorically imo and comparing things like battery etc is just not worth it.

But you can compare similar categories like the example i mention and see how one smart watch matches against the other. Like if we want to buy a good fountain pen but settle on a pencil beacause we don't want to deal with the ink, we cannot pretend the pencil and the pen are equivalent products that have direct comparasions even though they serve the same utility of writing device

		I guess in my case it makes sense because - I used the Apple Watch Ultra as ... a watch. The only two "non-watch" features that I really ever used were: - Find my Iphone/Make it beep. That stopped working once I disabled the ringer because it was annoyingly loud during meetings. - Setting a timer for 5 minutes or whatever during booking. Takes < 1 second to do that on my phone. Everything else was stuff that the Casio does way better. And - need the phone for the camera - so it's always with me. It's kind of amazing to have a watch with a 7+ year battery. I spent about 4 years with my Ultra. Might keep it for stuff like hiking where I want to track elevaton and such - but the other 99% of the time I expect the Casio will be my goto.

I think he's highlighting the all the bullshit the Apple Watch comes with has ended up meaningless crap after initially buying in to the Apple Watch hype for this guy. A laptop is a fundamentally different category than a calculator in both utility and capability.

		I mean if almost everyone buys the product for the "meaningless crap" then you might have a subjective opinion on it and thats okay but its not meaningless for everyone clearly otherwise no one would buy it. And yes, given the actual devices, i would say the casio watch is basically a calculator compared to an apple watch which is like a laptop. The fact that you can wear both on your wrists and they both tell time can make them the same utility catgeory, but in terms of device and engineering, it is absolutely a different category of device. Some might even call it a "smart watch" as opposed to a "diigtal watch" to make the difference in categories clearer
