Reddit is the cancer of the internet

It's just the most obvious tumor. The cancer is present everywhere that people's rightthink score is meticulously kept.

In a related research paper, scientists proved that water is wet.

The moderator is basically the equivalent of the environmental evaluator in a genetic/survival of the fittest algorithm. So of course the moderator will shape the outcome. No surprise there.

It’s more of a god role where sudden changes are possible to the environment that no fitness level could prepare for (e.g. a mod can decide to change history after it happened, or remove entire scenes suddenly), those violate the natural order of things to which you allude

It’s the opposite. Moderator is arbitrary authority to do as they please.

Survival of fittest would be if opinions were allowed, and let the best one win.

The Seattle subreddit and a bunch of other Washington state subreddits do this and instantly ban any non-woke content.
