That all sounds nice, but does he mean it and can we trust him?

Setting up governance bodies and think tanks could be a diversion. He does explicitly suggest a robot and token tax, so that is something.

He does not address the issue of IP theft or the possibility of shutting down AI altogether like medium range missiles (SS20/Pershing II) were removed by treaties. The could be AI treaties with China and Russia, except of course the US has no credibility now compared to the 1980s.

I would say, "No, we cannot trust him" because, even if/when his intentions are good, his interests, and his worldview, and not aligned with the public's (globally or locally). For example:
