> You've gotta be kidding me. Unfortunately everyone still uses the Nazi app so this is actually a big problem.

If the commenter truly believes it’s a Nazi app, why are they the slightest bit upset to lose access to any version of it?

It’s astonishingly easy to not use toxic social media platforms.

I can't even read specific public transport updates in my city because they only post those to Twitter, only vague messages on their own website.

robin_reala 7 hours ago | parent | next [-]

Have you thought about complaining to your public transport provider?

bbg2401 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

That’s a rather poor state of affairs but is surely an issue to take up with our local authorities. Is that their only communication channel? There’s no website, RSS feed or at least mirror feed on an alternative platform?

We should have prevented Twitter/X and other platforms becoming quasi-official communications channels for public institutions.

redeeman 6 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

so that means your city is "literally hitler" and if you pay any kind of taxes that goes to your city, then so are you? :)

perhaps tone down the whole nazi shit. X is clearly not nazi, and neither is musk.

edit: and yes, I think its atrocious that they only post on X, they should be punished severely for that

X is 88 in ASCII. That is literally Hitler.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/88_(number)#In_neo-Nazism

The renaming of Twitter, the MechaHitler incident, the Nazi salute, the 14 flags post, etc etc. It can't be any plainer. Not only does Musk ideologically align with Nazis, he can't stop expressing all sorts of literal Nazi symbols.

I hate Elon Musk with a passion, and he's definitely a Nazi, but he's been trying to do something with "x.com" since he bought the domain from Paypal in 1999.

notthemessiah 3 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

If he salutes like a Nazi, pushes antisemitism like a Nazi, and promotes Nazi policies, he's probably a Nazi (or at best, functionally indistinguishable). Plus, his parents had close ties to Nazis:

I can't believe people are still pushing these same propaganda talking points over and over. You people have overused the word Nazi so much, that it has no significance anymore. To you, it's a synonym for "people who aren't left wing that I disagree with".

It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

rvz 2 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

He is not though.

Then can we please stop driving Volkwagens (original Nazi car), BMWs, Mercedez-Benz, Audis, Ford, and Porsches because they contributed to the actual holocaust and the Nazi regime.

Maybe stop using IBM's services, close your Deutsche Bank account and stop reading the Associated Press.

What you are describing is guilt via the sins of the father and diluting the word "Nazi" to become meaningless.

Hey, I bought this VW Golf before Hitler invaded Poland

I do not use Twitter but some people who do interesting things somehow still do and only post about them there. It's all so tiring.

bdangubic 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

I would not say astonishingly as most people are full-on addicted to these platform and addictions are hard to kick, but definitely doable (9 years for me)

bbg2401 7 hours ago | parent [-]

I suppose my bemusement comes from the fact that the commenter describes it in the most extreme terms (a nazi app!), and yet cannot kick the habit.

ball_of_lint 2 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

When fighting Nazis, it's quite valuable to be able to hear what they're saying and know where they're going.

rvz 2 hours ago | parent [-]

Sounds like you are their biggest fans to care so much?

MeetingsBrowser 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

You answered your own question.

> Unfortunately everyone still uses the Nazi app

If your local town government for example only posts city updates to twitter, your options are to make a twitter account, use something like nitter, or miss out on updates.

seanw444 7 hours ago | parent | next [-]

There's that, and the fact that the "town square" for my city ended up being a city citizens page on Facebook. So we've got the city government and the sheriff's office posting updates to X and/or Facebook, and anything coming from the residents can only really be seen on Facebook. I don't want an X or Facebook account. I guess I'm just supposed to remain in the dark if I don't submit to corpos. The merger of corporation and state is very real, and I guess it often arrives unintentionally rather than intentionally.

bbg2401 7 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

Is this the case where you are?

If so, that’s appalling.

MeetingsBrowser 7 hours ago | parent [-]

yes. Lots of smaller city governments are barely capable of running a functioning website.

Twitter used to be an easy and free way to distribute updates publicly. That has changed, but the inertia is still there and there isn't a good low friction alternative.

Narretz 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

my guess is many people use nitter to do automatic scraping of Twitter for various projects, i.e. they can't believe they "have" to do it because so many people still use Twitter.

suddenlybananas 7 hours ago | parent | prev | next [-]

You can want to read something someone else has posted without giving your data to the owner of Twitter.

bbg2401 7 hours ago | parent [-]

So, it’s a nazi app that you can’t help but continue to read.

I don’t get it.

phoghed 7 hours ago | parent | next [-]

- it’s a nazi app

- some important non nazi information exists only on this app

- the nazi app is being harmed by nitter

Seems like using nitter would align with their worldview. Curious how you’ve failed to make this connection?

phoghed 5 hours ago | parent [-]

Where did I say that?

Vaslo 2 hours ago | parent [-]

Because Millions of people including myself love the app, and we're not Nazi's last time we checked. We just disagree with leftism.

suddenlybananas 7 hours ago | parent | prev [-]

Well, when heads of state, important ministers, politicians etc post things there, it's an unfortunate reality that you sometimes have to read it to stay in the loop. (I think Nazi app is a bit of an overstatement myself)

BizarroLand 6 hours ago | parent [-]

Rather than calling it a Nazi app, it's more apt to say it's a Corporate Oligarchy app.
