OpenAI and four rivals just agreed on one standard for AI agents

Some will see a great way to standardize and avoid duplication or lag between platforms, allow newcomers to get on more easily, that sort of things.

Others will see as a great way for gate keepers to gate control what can make its way in or not, and suddenly you're in a manifest v3 situation, all US companies and several of them in the same "glob", missing two/three of the obvious other big US ones and all the non US.

I think with how far and deep everything is changing every month in that field, it's very premature. You don't even know what an agent add-on will be six month from now.

		Kinda misleading title too no? Is MCSFT and Vercel actually "rivals"? Last time I checked it was Anthropic and Elon that we're doing the rivalry. And yesit does sound like gate control - and also maybe this is another one of those attempts to fill in the news cycle with the familiar narrative "wow they're so powerful now they need to be standardized and reigned in"

If I understand it right, this basically deprecates all the proprietary harness folder structures in favor of a standardized one. Was high time it happened, I hope they add support for hooks and instructions as well to fully cover everything.
