It's most likely due to a rebate or cash back when changing providers. You can save a lot of money by switching providers every 12 months and taking cash back into account. If you have dispatchable loads (i.e. flexible charging of an electric vehicle) and a suitable electricity meter, you can also save a lot of money be choosing a dynamic tariff that tracks market prices (plus taxes etc).

There is cash back. When I bought my contract, I got 250€ + 90€ cash back in total after paying the first invoice.

Ah, that's great! I remember, conditions somewhere were you receive the "treue" bonus after the first year for a 2 year contract.

I'm watching how with more sun, oeko-energy price keeps growing (despite every summer before it was cheaper):
