I more so view it as standardisation of product. A product where there was not that much to change with. Your 60W lightbulb from any maker would produce similar amount light, consume same power and thus have similar lifespan.

Maybe they could have optimised for less light and longer lifespan with lower efficiency. But agreeing to standard in itself is not bad.
