BMWs shows in-car ads for Spiderman

It's an alert that comes in as a surprise from BMW - you don't have to click it, but when you do, you are met with a minute long video ad for Spiderman.

Submitting as I figured it would be interesting for discussion. Boiling frogs and all.

I tried looking for collaborating evidence online, and so far only found this on BMW's website:

> To celebrate the partnership with Spider-Man™: Brand New Day, BMW has a special surprise for its drivers. The Spider-Man™ Animation will be available (in participating markets) to all customers with suitably equipped vehicles from 27 July to 10 August. Starting the car brings up a special banner in the Control Display. Clicking on it then activates the Spider-Man™ animation, comprising a full-screen festive animation in the Control Display with aptly chosen backing music and an accompanying light show courtesy of the ambient lighting system. These festive animations will be available in more than 70 countries worldwide for vehicles equipped with the relevant optional equipment and BMW Operating System 7, 8, 8.5, 9 or BMW Operating System X, as well as a production date after 7/2020.

They do it for every holiday. My kids enjoy watching the holiday ones and I’m sure they’ll like Spider-Man one too. The July 4th and Christmas ones were cool. There’s a marketing aspect to it, IIRC they usually show a recently released car.

Does anyone outside the US get something local like our Independence Day July 4th?

I believe we gave more countries their independence day than anyone else old sport. However I'm yet to see the connection between such matters and what appears to be your acceptability of in-car advertising.

Do you know Bolivar and San Martin?

I guess you don’t get a Boxing Day one?

Nobody forces you to click the so called ad. Does your BMW force you to watch them?

This occurs in YOUR car!?! WTF That is a great reason to never buy an BMW. Thanks for the warning.

I guess the heated seat subscription was the canary in the coal mine.

My “ultimate driving experience” is ad free.

I have to think the original founding crew would like to punch someone in the mouth, if they could see this.

Wait for ad to play.

Crash vehicle.

Profit?

Paying a premium for a not-premium experience haha. I love BMW for its' design world contributions, but this is more anti-consumer behavior from the company that popularized melting plastic parts in your engine.

Can you get one that displays ads on the exterior? That way you can be like the taxis and buses running around town! I'm sure the chick's will think that is cool.

Maybe if they pay the driver, but it seems like they'll be paying BMW instead.

I think the only way vendors will learn that this is not acceptable is people not buying their stuff any more.

In my opinion Windows has pushed "slop" too far and is now experiencing lowering market share and I really hope this happens to all the companies trying a B055man69 move[1] on their customers.

My 99 manual A4 is looking better all the time. Turns out more reliable too.

BMWs are never reliable, but what I like is the drivability.
