That they are requiring bible excerpts every year for every student? Unclear if they are requiring excerpts from any other religions.

Teachers ought to have some freedom to select the makeup of their curriculum. Top-down mandates are rarely well received or effective

> Texas education officials say the Bible is an essential piece of literature and important for understanding America’s founding and culture.

The question is if the students will be taught that the first non-native Americans came here because of within-Christianity fighting and persecution. It's still a thing, my brother was subjected to it while training to be a pastor, left the school to become a history teacher, and has since left religion altogether. I'm not sure bible passages will teach this facet on their own.

Agreed.

In fairness I haven't been in high school for a long time, I assumed they would have to. Otherwise how could explain the pilgrims, pointy hat enthusiasts?

They should. I'm not particularly religious myself, but my gripe is when people try to dismiss the bible, quran, torah, buddhist writings, etc they are being willfully ignorant of major mobilizing forces throughout history..
