Color me extremely skeptical. Yes, Bad Vibes are a thing. But blaming "the vibes" is useless performative BS. The closest thing to "vibes" that I'd blame is the ways in which modern media, shrunken and scattered families, and withered neighborhood social networks have relentlessly disconnected people from the support structures which young parents routinely enjoyed back in "the good old days". Back then, most would-be moms and dads had years of very clear, in-person experience to tell them that they could safely have kids - without achieving 1%-level wealth and economic security first. Another way to describe this might be that late-stage capitalism's relentless optimization of extraction has left too few resources, and devalued human lives too far, for the long-term and uncertain investment of a child to make sense anymore. | ||
