I’ve seen stuff like this before. The problem is that it doesn’t really look much better than using something like an HQx4 filter [1] which uses an anti-aliasing lookup table to produce a sharper results than Super Eagle but in the process gives it this almost sterile vectorized look that loses a lot of the charm of the original pixel art IMHO.

That's not to take away from how neat this approach is from a technical perspective, but give me a straight-up 4x nearest neighbor upscale any day of the week for old-school Sierra games.
