In the AI race, China has the upper hand over the long term.

AI is compute and power expensive. He who has the cheapest power has a competitive advantage.

Going forward; fossil fuel is a liability. China gets it, US leadership doesn't.

Sanders doesn't care who wins. Sanders is pushing to assume that somebody will win, and to consider the world that will result in.

In particular he wants to consider the worst case scenarios. Which sounds reasonable, except that as so often, he's tilting at windmills. AI is going to progress faster than attempts to manage it. If you try to slow it down with legislation, then it will still proceed just as fast, only the "winner" will be the one with the most ability to circumvent the law.

He's on firmer ground trying to regulate the growth of data centers. And unfortunately, he faces both the tech bros and the fossil fuel industry. The problem there is political rather than technological, and I wish him luck trying to attract allies there.
