Happy Qwen user here, also a US citizen, part of my motivation is not wanting our country to repeat the mistakes of Big Tech and Big Social when it comes to Big Ai. Open models give us the ability to escape their silos and their influence. I picked up a DGX Spark so I can also run my compute outside of their purview, with a freedom from token anxiety bonus (I can just let it rip). Things I'd like to see 1. Even more openness, like AllenAi: https://allenai.org/olmo 2. More EU options and regulation (leader in rights & laws, even if slow to implement) 3. A public conversation on Responsible Ai. The social impacts are at the top of my concern list, most prominent is that people are forming "relationships" with Ai. The second one is how Ai will be used to exponential the abuse or extraction from our most vulnerable friends, neighbors, and citizens. | ||
