Life after California: People find dramatically lower costs, buy homes

...sharply increasing housing costs for the people who were already there (housing doubled here after 2019).

This has been going on for at least fifty years. People make their fortunes in California, go somewhere else, buy a middling house and spend a hundred grand on improvements.

It was a known pattern in my home town. I saw it myself in Portland.
