Seizing the island, reopening the straight, etc might work in the short term, but can the US keep them that way in the long term. I read the US is spending 1B$ a day to fund this war. It is not sustainable.

Even if the US is willing to shoulder that cost, Iran will re-arm and undo any progress eventually. Look at Ukraine, its a constant back and forth.
