You wouldn’t be able to use a Faraday case. The physics principle behind it requires it to surround the whole device which is being shielded.

The iPhone antennagate story would suggest that sometimes this isn’t the situation.

		Attenuating RF is exactly what a Faraday cage does. Though as you suggest, relying that would be a bad idea. For some reason manually turning off RF transmission seems to have been ruled out, so we are looking for an unusual solution to the problem.
