Aren't there some hardware dongles to translate from DP to HDMI?

Last I checked, even the best ones that are high quality don't support VRR.

		A recent one seems to work with VRR: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/1pkdfcm/ugree... DP1.4 though, so you're still going to need compression.
