I mean, it makes numbers weird if you can't have less than a nickel. Tax could be designed to ensure prices are in increments of 5¢. And interest rates, etc. Rounding to whole numbers feels more natural to people than rounding to 5¢. But ultimately it's the same thing. | |||||||||||||||||

The way you're framing this sounds like no other country has ever gone through the process of removing their 1 and 2 cent coins. Many have. It's fine. None of this is a problem. It does work better if there's a bit of planning though. | |||||||||||||||||
