Federal Shutdown Means More NIH Grants Won't Be Reviewed this cycle, more lost time, more research coming to a halt, more scientists leaving to other nations. This is what a failing superpower looks like.

If anyone thought China's gain in the last 20 years was rapid, they have no clue what it would look like by 2028 - thanks to a self-inflicted damage by Republicans.

The Dem argument would be that NIH Grants are not particularly reliable under a funded Trump administration, as the administration seems to ignore the will of Congress on a whim, cancel grants, etc with little legal recourse.

(Or worse, grants are doled out to cronies)

Seriously thinking about looking for a position in Europe, as funding my research has gotten terribly uncertain (even more uncertain the it usually is) in the U.S.

I left US academia for Australia in 2023 and have never been happier - I'd be happy to talk to you about the changes I encountered if you'd like!
