Last time I looked at DragonflyBSD, it was kind of an intermediate between a traditional kernel and a microkernel. There certainly was a lot more in the kernel as compared to systems built on e.g. L4. There certainly is a continuum. I've always wanted to build a microkernel-ish system on top of Linux that only has userspace options for block devices, file systems and tcp/ip. It would be dog-slow but theoretically work. |
