Are you familiar of the parable of the Monk and the Minister? It goes something like this: Two close friends grow up and part ways. One becomes a monk, the other one becomes a minister to the king. Many years later they meet again. As they catch up, the minister, wearing fancy clothes, pities on the homely monk. Trying to help, he says: "You know, if you could learn to cater to the king you wouldn't have to live on rice and beans." To which the monk replies: "If you could learn to live on rice and beans you wouldn't have to cater to the king!" |
