Tel HN: GitHub account locked just after launching my startup. Any help?

Edit: The situation has been solved! Thank you very much to all the people who reached out and helped to resolve the situation in less than 2 hours!

Hi HN,

I just launched my project on GitHub last week (https://pingoo.io / https://github.com/pingooio/pingoo, the fast, secure and easy-to-use Load Balancer / API Gateway / Reverse Proxy with built-in service discovery, GeoIP, WAF, bot protection and more).

The project seems to have some traction with almost 600 stars in a week, but after doing some maintenance, my account has been automatically blocked, and it seems that my organizations are no longer accessible and their support is not reachable.

This is a very bad situation, so I'm reaching to the community if anyone can help, or has a friend who can help, or has a big audience on X/Twitter and can get a real Human to help.

One of the worst thing is that even Docker images can't be pulled!

You can contact me at: https://pingoo.io/contact

Thank you in advance!

It would be great to see this github account restored so that we could hopefully get *some* kind of public update on the Cloudflare Book he announced on HN over two years ago, which he collected money for early access, but has then provided *zero* updates about, and which has zero indication of ever being finished.

It was on github here: https://github.com/skerkour/cloudflare-for-speed-and-securit...

Though it's currently unavailable of course.

What's up with that Sylvain? If your github account is restored, will you finally either give some kind of update to confirm that this was not a scam, and/or refund folks' money if they request it?

You want to hear from a real Human [sic] here in your case, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to hear from a real Human (you) about wtf is going on with this mystery book whose completion seems...dubious.

I understand the frustration, I bought it too.

But the man is very clear: https://kerkour.com/cloudflare-for-speed-and-security

> Estimated date of final publication: 2025 (soon ™)

If I'm not wrong, we're still in 2025 :)

Not quite. The estimated publication date has kept sliding--later, less specific--with no context or announcements.

The original HN post said, "The final publication date is set for mid-January 2024." Early-access was framed as "so that you can start learning today, but also, so I can get feedback and refine the content of the book with your feedback." Yet in two years there’s been no content updates, no requests for feedback--nothing.

delays happen, and writing a book is tough. But two years of radio silence while still posting plenty of unrelated writing, blog posts, and projects (like Pingoo itself) isn’t the situation that was advertised. An active project with normal delays and complexity is way different than vaporware. Buyers expected an active, rough-but-completion-in-sight project they’d help refine--not immediate and total abandonment and silence.

So after two years of this, seeing Sylvain's frustration about a lack of clarity/communication from someone he's given money to and has expectations of (GitHub), is pretty galling to be frank.

Having no communication from people you’ve given money to sucks, doesn’t it, Sylvain?

If there is a really simple, honest, clear narrative that proves me wrong on all of this, I'd be thrilled. Let's hear it!

You are right, an update is long overdue and will come soon(TM).

But right now, all our energy should be dedicated to solving the issue described in the post.

Wow, didn't you get any email or other notification on why it was getting blocked and what you could do about it?!

Github has a history of locking accounts with no notice or explanation, the OP is far from the first. Employers only look at Github, but you should mirror your important repos to GitLab or some other service.

Knowing the author of Pingoo I wonder if he may have used anything that may have made GitHub red flag his account.

Your knowledge of the author of Pingoo makes you more likely to believe that he may have erred? This explanation gains strength for you given your knowledge of his character and personality and professional practices?

When I said I know the author, I meant I know his public internet existence.

https://kerkour.com/announcing-pingoo

He wrote different books about Rust, Cybersecurity, etc.

I just wonder if he may have used, I don't know, a VPN with blacklisted IPs and because he had many connections to his account from it, he was flagged.

Seriously, what did you do man...

I have learned a lot from Sylvain Kerkour's free newsletter and I support his work. Pingoo looks like an extremely interesting project and I had starred it. It needs to come back as soon as possible!
