Brings back memories. I cut my teeth in C++ working on a system that used pointer tagging and transactional memory. Good times. That mind mending experience perhaps made my career.

Whatever happened to STM?

		My understanding is that it didn’t provide much practical benefit that could justify the cost. I was interested at the time but the zeitgeist was that no one could come up with a scenario where it was worth it. Most of what hardware STM provided could be achieved by designing the software better.

		Clojure has transactional memory primitives. I've no idea how often they are used.
