I’ve been puzzled by a number of houses near me with panels on the north-facing roof. Are panels really that cheap that it makes sense or are people that stupid?

I can get 450W solar panels near me for around £55(~$75) so yeah they're pretty cheap. Makes sense to cover the roof while you're up there.
