Not too long ago, I was in Redding CA on a cold morning in a coffee shop for a business meeting. I happened to chit chat with a gal with a nasal infusion pump who was nervously gathering her papers for a bankruptcy hearing where the hospitals and such were calling dibs on (nearly) everything she had left while she was dying and still alive from Stage IV cancer. That was just one life made to suffer and destroyed by privatizing everything and calling universal healthcare "communism". There are millions more nameless examples whose stories die untold, and you (if you were American in America), your mother, your child, or your spouse may well end up becoming one of these statistics too. Every other civilized country in the world and relatively some poorer ones have better health outcomes, live longer, and spend less per patient. Americans are dying and becoming homeless unnecessarily because of apathy, out-of-control political corruption, and greed. It's shameful and a disgrace. |
